Slate Blue Harbor · Credit and insurance
Credit with a balance sheet in mind.
Slate Blue Harbor originates and manages private credit, runs collateralized loan obligations, and builds investment solutions for insurers, where duration, ratings and capital treatment matter as much as yield.
What we do
Lend directly. Manage credit. Serve insurers.
Harbor works in three connected lines: private credit, CLO management and insurance solutions. Each has its own underwriting standards, its own committee charter and its own reporting, under the firm's single allocation and cross-trade policies.
i
Direct lending and asset-based finance
Senior secured loans and asset-based facilities to operating businesses, originated and documented under Harbor's own underwriting standards and term sheet protocols.
ii
CLO management
Leveraged loan portfolios managed through warehouse, indenture compliance, coverage and collateral quality tests, reinvestment, refinancing and reset, with risk retention built in.
iii
Insurance solutions
Separately managed accounts for insurers with investment guidelines, NAIC designation and SVO filings, risk-based capital analysis, asset-liability management and Schedule D reporting support.
iv
Structured solutions
Rated note feeders, private letter ratings and reinsurance sidecars, structured so that insurer capital reaches private credit in the form its balance sheet needs.

Slate Blue Harbor
How we operate
Underwriting first, always.
A credit memo, an internal risk rating and a committee vote precede every commitment. Portfolio tests are monitored continuously, investor and noteholder reporting runs on a calendar, and every insurer client is onboarded under a written protocol.

Perspectives
From Slate Blue Harbor, in writing.
i
What insurers need from private credit
Insurance balance sheets and private lending can be a natural fit. They work best when the manager builds for the insurer's constraints from the start, not as an afterthought.
ii
In private credit, documentation is protection
A lender's strongest defense is often not the collateral itself but the agreement that governs it. Why the work done before closing matters most when a loan is tested.
iii
Asset-based finance: lending against what is there
Some of the most useful credit in the economy is secured by receivables, inventory and equipment rather than projected cash flow. An introduction to how it works and what it asks of a lender.
iv
When a loan goes wrong, process matters most
Every lender will eventually face a borrower in difficulty. The outcome depends heavily on decisions made before that day arrives.
